Cycling Routes in Eastern Europe & Balkans
There are plenty of alternative cycling routes in the Balkans so if you are looking for a guided or bespoke cycling holiday, you could use this list for inspiration. Martin Cycling Adventures designs bespoke cycling tours on these routes or other similar ones.
Romania is the base camp for the Martin Cycling Adventures team and our home country. It's here where we initially started running our epic cycling ours in the Balkans. We have been blessed with two of the most iconic cycling roads in Central and Eastern Europe: the Transfagarasan and the Transalpina. If you're looking for a destination that is still under the radar and at the same time you're up to a real challenge, explore these alternative cycling tours that we have designed for you.
Slovenia is an amazing little country in the Eastern part of Europe that we had the pleasure of exploring in the past couple of years. Cycling in Slovenia is a great alternative to cycling in the Alps since this is not (yet) such a busy destination. Tucked away between Italy, Austria and Croatia, it features a superb combination of high mountains with demanding climbs, stunning glacier lakes and gentle rolling hills.
Croatia is a truly mediteranean destination with its Dalmatian coast and cycling friendly islands in the center of the cycling offering. Whether urban, hidden, wild, unspoiled or pebbly, Croatia has over 6,000 km of coastline sure to feature the beach of your dreams and beyond. You can even challenge your own limits and get excited being a part of the five stages of the Tour of Croatia.
